Designers to Know: Dubini
Some jewelry you admire.
Some jewelry you feel.
I first met Benedetta Dubini, the designer and founder behind DUBINI, years ago in London through mutual friends, around the time she was launching her fine jewelry brand. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of watching her vision take shape and grow, and to this day, I remain a loyal admirer of her work.
Not long after, I moved to San Francisco, launched my jewelry advisory company Mirta de Gisbert, and began interviewing designers whose work I truly respected. Benedetta was naturally one of them. I launched in August 2017, and by November of that same year, her interview was already live.
I share this because DUBINI is a brand I’ve known from its earliest days, one I’ve seen evolve while remaining deeply true to its original point of view. Benedetta’s way of seeing jewelry has always been clear and unwavering. When I interviewed her in 2017 and asked her to describe her jewelry in one word, she chose “eternal.” By taking something from 200 B.C., such as a coin, and transforming it, she explained, you are giving it new life.
As you explore her collections, you feel that sense of continuity immediately. Benedetta breathes new life into powerful, meaningful coins, honoring their past while allowing them to live fully in the present. She has become a true numismatist, executing each piece with such care, detail and precision that I find myself wanting every single one. Each DUBINI jewel is thoughtfully designed to reveal both sides of the coin, offering a window into its soul.
There is something deeply grounding about wearing a piece of history so beautifully reimagined, jewelry that feels both personal and universal. To be able to call Benedetta a friend makes her pieces even more special to me.
I’ve had my eye on a particular coin style for quite some time. I can’t wait to finally make it mine. Maybe this year?
Some designers catch your eye.
Others stay on your mind.
